IPL 2025: LSG’s Digvesh Rathi sparks fresh controversy with AGRESSIVE send-off against Mumbai Indians

New Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants spinner Digvesh Rathi’s performance on Friday drew attention, not only for his bowling but also for a contentious celebration following the dismissal of Mumbai Indians batsman Naman Dhir at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.

During Mumbai Indians’ pursuit of 204 runs, Rathi dismissed Dhir, a key batter who had scored a rapid 46 runs from 24 balls, in the ninth over. Rathi’s aggressive celebration following the dismissal, similar to one that previously resulted in a 25% fine and a demerit point, caused further controversy.

Following a previous penalty, Rathi again performed the controversial paper celebration as Dhir left the field. This action has generated significant fan discussion and questions regarding potential further disciplinary measures.

The IPL previously cited Rathi for a minor offense (Level 1 breach under Article 2.5) involving inappropriate language or behavior. Although he accepted the penalty, his recent actions indicate he remains unapologetic for his aggressive style.

The league and referee face a significant decision regarding a player’s repeated offenses. Two ejections in consecutive games suggest harsher penalties may be warranted.
