New bore-wells to address water scarcity in Baddi during summer
To deal with water shortage in the Baddi area during the summer, the SDM has directed officials to strengthen the worn out water supply machinery and dig new bore-wells in areas facing chronic shortage.
Baddi SDM Vivek Mahajan says that 11 places have been identified where water shortage is witnessed during the summer. “To provide uninterrupted supply of water during the summer, measures like installation of new bore-wells at places like Bilanwali Gujran, Bhatoli Khurd, Tolarh, Teen Patta, Nandpur, Sheel Gaon, Jagjitnagar, Bhaguri, Bandh, Kotla and Sheetalpur have been worked out.” He adds, “The issue of digging of bore-wells has been taken up with Doon MLA Ramkumar Chawdhary, who has assured that he will get 50 bore-wells sanctioned for various villages that face water scarcity during the summer. Besides, measures like the repair of an existing water tank at Bagguwala village, which causes considerable loss of water, has also been expedited."
Areas like Kaundi and Bilanwali Gujran, which face chronic scarcity of water, are being dealt with on priority and the repair and maintenance work has been initiated there. At Surajpur Dholar village, the staff of the Jal Shakti Department has been directed to speed up the laying a new scheme and connect it to a bore.
The water scheme at Sheel Kalian village will be strengthened to provide supply to the villagers in summer months. The work to complete another water supply scheme at Nandpur village will be expedited while bores will be dug at Mandesar for Daunta and Ropar villages. While reviewing water availability, it has also been decided to prepare an estimate of old leaking pipes of the Konta irrigation scheme while the water supply scheme at Mandhala is being repaired. Other areas like Baghuri and Bandh will be able to get uninterrupted water supply from Naid Khud, says the SDM.
He adds that old schemes lying defunct in places like Kuthar are also being re-examined for making them functional so that rural habitations in the Doon constituency do not face water scarcity during the summer.
Solan district had witnessed deficient rainfall during the winter, hence water scarcity is likely to set in as the summer arrives.
