Punjab health minister launches initiative to provide free medicines at govt hospitals

Punjab health minister Dr Balbir Singh formally launched Punjab government’s initiative of free medicines facility for patients at the emergency department at the Government Rajindra Hospital.

With the cooperation of the Patiala Health Foundation USA Chapter, Singh also dedicated a new dialysis machine, costing Rs 11 lakh, for kidney patients in the emergency ICU, and eight newly installed water coolers in the hospital to the patients.

The minister said attendants of patients in the emergency will no longer have to get any medicine from outside.

He informed that the government had set up around 80 free medicines facilities at the Aam Aadmi Clinics, which were initiated with the aim of bringing a health revolution in the state, and from where three crore people have already benefited.

Following this, on January 26, 2024, this facility was launched in secondary healthcare district hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals, and community health centers.

“Under the tertiary heathcare initiative the government has started the provision of 100 percent free medicines at the emergency department of Rajindra Hospital, and gradually, medicines will be made available for free of cost across Punjab,” the health ministe further added.

Patiala
