Theatre takes centre stage in Galma to fight drug menace

Hindi Theatre Day and the birth anniversary of renowned Hindi playwright Lal Chand Prarthi were celebrated on Friday with great enthusiasm at Government Senior Secondary School, Galma, in Mandi district. The event was jointly organised by the United Theatre Society and Art Village Association with the support of the Himachal Pradesh Language and Culture Department.

A special play was performed for the students as part of the celebration, with the aim of fostering a connection between young minds and the world of theatre and literature. Organisers stressed the importance of engaging children in cultural and creative activities, especially in the current context where substance abuse is becoming an alarming issue among youth.

“The more children are connected with theatre, literature, and cultural values, the more their intellectual and emotional growth is nurtured,” said one of the event coordinators.

School Principal Tilak welcomed the initiative and expressed gratitude to the organisers. He encouraged the continuation of such events, stating that they provide a much-needed platform for students to discover and showcase their hidden talents.

The highlight of the programme was a Mandiyali play titled Danda Wala Doctor, directed by Deep Kumar. The play featured engaging performances by Anil Mahant, Ved Kumar, and Deep Kumar himself. In addition, Sarita Handa delivered a heartfelt poem on the dangers of drug addiction, which resonated deeply with the audience.

Daksh Upadhyay, secretary of the Utsav Society and a well-known theatre artiste, addressed the students and shed light on the legacy of Lal Chand Prarthi and his contributions to Hindi theatre. He also explained the significance of Hindi Theatre Day in preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural heritage.

The event proved to be an inspiring experience for students, encouraging them to tap into their creative potential while also steering clear of harmful influences.
