Chamba man found dead, wife held

A woman has been arrested in Chamba town after her husband was found dead under mysterious circumstances in their home in the Mugla locality on Thursday evening.

The deceased, identified as 48-year-old Kewal, son of Amar Lal, was discovered unconscious in his bedroom by neighbours. According to police sources, he had visible injury marks on his body, raising suspicions of foul play. His wife, Hemlata, was taken into custody shortly after, as preliminary investigations pointed to her involvement.

Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yadav confirmed that a case of murder has been registered against Hemlata under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Initial inquiries revealed a history of frequent quarrels between the couple, with a particularly heated argument reported on Wednesday night, which reportedly turned violent.

The next morning, Hemlata left for work and their son also stepped out. It was during the day that neighbours, sensing something unusual, found Kewal unresponsive on his bed and immediately informed the police.

Officers arrived at the scene and questioned nearby residents, many of whom confirmed hearing a major altercation between the couple the previous night. Based on these statements and the condition in which the body was found, police detained Hemlata on suspicion of murder.

SP Yadav added that the exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway to collect concrete evidence and establish the sequence of events leading to Kewal’s death.
