LSG Survive Hardik's Fifer, Suryakumar’s Fifty To Seal 12-Run Win Over MI

Despite a fighting fifty from Suryakumar Yadav and a sensational five-wicket haul by Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant's Lucknow Super Giants held their nerve to clinch a thrilling 12-run victory over Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 clash at the Ekana Stadium, Lucknow, on Friday, March 4.

Chasing a target of 204, Mumbai Indians managed 191/5 in their 20 overs, falling short by 12 runs against Lucknow Super Giants. Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant knock of 67 off 43 balls, while Naman Dheer added a quick 46 off just 24 deliveries to keep MI in the hunt.

Tilak Varma retired hurt on 25 (23), and skipper Hardik Pandya contributed 28 off 16 balls in the final overs. Despite their efforts, Mumbai couldn't close out the chase and suffered their third defeat of IPL 2025 under Hardik's leadership.

LSG off to strong start, but falter midway

Lucknow Super Giants, after being put in to bat first, posted a competitive total of 203/8 against Mumbai Indians. The highlight of the innings was Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya, who delivered a sensational bowling performance, claiming his maiden five-wicket haul in IPL.

Lucknow's innings began on a high as their openers stitched together a solid 76-run partnership.

Mitchell Marsh led the charge with an aggressive 60 off 31 balls. However, the momentum slowed down with the quick dismissals of key middle-order batters. Nicholas Pooran managed only 12, while Rishabh Pant’s struggles continued as he fell for just 2 — marking his fourth successive failure with the bat.

Ayush Badoni contributed 30, and Abdul Samad departed after scoring 4.

Aiden Markram played a crucial anchor role with a steady 53 off 38 balls, while David Miller added a quick-fire 27 off 13 deliveries, helping LSG cross the 200-run mark. In the final overs, Shardul Thakur remained unbeaten on 5 and Avesh Khan on 2.

Hardik Pandya leads from the front

MI skipper Hardik Pandya was the star of the show with the ball. He picked up his first-ever IPL five-wicket haul, dismantling the LSG middle-order by removing Markram, Pooran, Pant, Miller, and Akash Deep. His impactful spell kept Mumbai in the game and showcased his brilliance with the ball.

Other MI bowlers also chipped in — Vignesh Puthur got the breakthrough by dismissing the opening partnership, while Trent Boult and Ashwini Kumar claimed a wicket each.
