Dhoni Returns As Chennai Captain? Big Update Ahead Of CSK vs DC Clash

MS Dhoni could be back at the helm for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as they prepare to take on Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday Revsportz reported.

With regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad uncertain due to injury, Dhoni may once again don the captain's hat - a move that has already sparked buzz among fans.

How Ruturaj got injured?

CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad is uncertain for the upcoming CSK vs DC clash after sustaining a blow to his elbow in the previous game against Rajasthan Royals.

Despite the injury, Gaikwad continued his innings and notching up his second half-century of the season. However, the elbow has remained sore, and he has been unable to train in the lead-up to the next fixture.

His availability will depend on a final assessment ahead of the match.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, CSK batting coach Michael Hussey said, "Ruturaj is still experiencing some pain. We’ll assess him during today’s net session. Only after that will we know if he’s fit to play. If not, we haven’t confirmed the stand-in captain yet - but there’s a possibility a young wicketkeeper could come in."

While Hussey didn't name Dhoni directly, all signs point towards the franchise legend stepping up if needed.

Dhoni last captained CSK in the IPL 2023 final, where he led the team to a dramatic title win over Gujarat Titans. With five IPL trophies and two Champions League titles under his captaincy, Dhoni remains the most successful leader in CSK's history.

So far, only four players have captained CSK in the IPL - MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ruturaj Gaikwad. If Dhoni returns to lead again, it would be a nostalgic moment for fans and a major boost for the team.
