DA Arrears: From January 1, 2025, their dearness allowance has increased from 53 percent to 55. However, the increase of 2 percent is the lowest in the last 7 years. Also, this time the government approved it at the end of March. Therefore, it will be paid in April.

DA Arrears: There is good news for central employees. Soon they will get their arrears along with their dearness allowance. The arrears of 3 months will be released together. Let us tell you, the central government has recently revised the dearness allowance of the employees. This time their dearness allowance has increased by 2 percent. From January 1, 2025, their dearness allowance has increased from 53 percent to 55. However, the increase of 2 percent is the lowest in the last 7 years. Also, this time the government approved it at the end of March. Therefore, it will be paid in April. This will benefit about 48.6 lakh employees and 66.5 lakh pensioners of the central government. This increase will put an annual burden of Rs 6,614 crore on the government.

When and how much money will be received?

The new dearness allowance (DA) will be applicable from January 1, 2025, but employees will also get the arrears of January, February and March 2025. Employees whose basic salary is ₹ 18,000 have benefited by ₹ 360 every month. In this sense, their total arrears for three months will be ₹ 1080. This will also be paid with the salary of April. At the same time, pensioners whose basic pension is ₹ 9,000 have benefited by ₹ 180 every month and they will get ₹ 540 as arrears for three months. DA is increased twice a year, once from January and second time from July. Now the next increase will be for July-December 2025, which will usually be announced by October-November 2025.

Why was DA increased by only 2%?

According to the All India Consumer Price Index (CPI-IW), DA/DR has increased by 2% since January 2025. In December 2024, the AICPI-IW number was 143.7 points, due to which the calculation of DA reached 55.98%. But, according to government rules, the number after the decimal is not added to the dearness allowance, so it was increased by 55%.

This happened for the first time in 78 months

In the last few years, dearness allowance has increased at the rate of 3 or 4 percent. But for the first time in 78 months (6 and a half years), DA was increased by only 2%. Earlier in the year 2018, dearness allowance was increased by 2 percent. Since then, only 3 or 4 percent increase was seen continuously. Before the implementation of the new pay commission, the more growth there is in dearness allowance, the more benefit the employees will get. But, the 8th Pay Commission has just been announced and the increase in dearness allowance by only 2% right after the announcement is not liked by the employees.

Will dearness allowance be zero?

With the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission, the calculation of dearness allowance may change once again. There is a discussion that DA will be merged into the basic salary. This will reset the salary structure and DA will start again from zero. But, it will completely depend on the recommendations of the panel. If sources are to be believed, when the government implements the 8th Pay Commission, its base year for calculation of dearness allowance can also be changed. Due to this also, the calculation of dearness allowance will start from zero.
