Breaking News: BJP Press Conference Targets Mamata Government Over West Bengal School Recruitment Scam
In a significant press conference today, BJP spokesperson Dr. Sambit Patra highlighted the ongoing issues in West Bengal, particularly focusing on the major school recruitment scam. Dr. Patra discussed the serious allegations of corruption related to the recruitment of teachers and non-teaching staff in the state between 2016 and 2021. He referenced the Supreme Court’s recent ruling, which called attention to the massive irregularities in the recruitment process, where over 23-24 lakh applicants had applied for teaching positions. The Kolkata High Court, in its judgment on April 22, 2024, declared that the recruitment process was tainted by corruption, and that many positions had been filled using improper methods, including manipulating Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets. The court determined that the recruitment was fraudulent, with candidates being placed unfairly through bribes and manipulation, putting qualified candidates at a disadvantage. Dr. Patra emphasized that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) must conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter. He accused the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of hindering investigations and making baseless accusations against the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) when the matter came to light. The BJP press conference aimed to target the Mamata government’s handling of this major scandal, calling for transparency and accountability in the recruitment process.
