Gurugram auto, taxi drivers fined for not wearing uniform

In the past three months, the Gurugram Traffic Police issued 9,695 challans to auto, e-rickshaw, and taxi drivers for not wearing the mandatory grey uniform with a badge. A total of ₹68.21 lakh was collected in fines from January to March this year.

The dress code rule, enforced in May 2024, was introduced to help passengers identify registered drivers and distinguish them from unlicensed operators. Despite multiple awareness campaigns conducted by the police at various locations, many drivers continued to violate the uniform mandate.

The Gurugram traffic police in a special drive conducted from January 1 to March 31, issued a total of 9695 challans to drivers for not wearing uniform with a total fine amount is Rs 68,21,500.

“Uniforms and badges make it easier for passengers to recognize registered drivers. We conducted awareness campaigns at several intersections, yet many drivers were found flouting the rule, leading to challans," said DCP (Traffic) Virender Vij.

During the campaign, the police also educated auto, taxi, and e-rickshaw drivers about courteous behaviour with passengers, adhering to speed limits, avoid mobile phone use, staying sober while driving, following traffic rules, and provided information about Dial 112 and helpline number 1095 to awareness, added DCP Vij.
