Campus notes: CKD inaugurates school at Batala
The Chief Khalsa Diwan inaugurated Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary School at Batala’s Urban Estate. The inaugural ceremony was performed by CKD president Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar in the presence of office-bearers and other members. The event was themed, ‘Gurmat and Sikh Virsa’, celebrating Sikh heritage and values. Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar commented that the school is dedicated to the 150th birth anniversary of Bhai Vir Singh, and joins the 48 schools being run by CKD. He emphasised that with the launch of this ultra-modern school, CKD would continue its mission to empower the youth by blending modern education with Sikh values and heritage. Built on two acres, the four-storey building would include fully air-conditioned classrooms equipped with interactive digital panels, state-of-the-art labs for computers, science, mathematics and English language proficiency, a well-stocked modern library and music rooms, an international-level sports hall and playground, a conference hall and an auditorium with advanced audio-visual facilities. He informed that regular medical check-ups would be conducted to ensure students’ health and well-being.
New session at Ashok Vatika
Amritsar: Ashok Vatika Public School commenced its new session 2025-2026 with great enthusiasm and excitement. The whole campus was well adorned with balloons and welcome tags to start the new session with fresh hopes, new resolutions and aspirations. The students were quite curious to attend the first day. The students from pre-wing to senior grades started the session with renewed vigour. A special assembly was also organised to mark the joyous beginning. A havan was organised to embrace the positive vibes. Principal Aanchal Mahajan, along with the other faculty members, prayed for the success of the students and the school. She also delivered a speech encouraging the students to set their aims high, make efforts and work hard. Prasad was also distributed among the students.
SSEC student shines at SOF Olympiad
Amritsar: Saint Soldier Elite Convent School students have won several positions at the zonal level winning gold at SOF 2024 -25. Ekampreet Kaur (Rank-23) and Ebadit Kaur (Rank-24 ), secured zonal ranks while Charanjit Singh, Driti Jain, Udayveer Singh, Ekamjeet Singh, Sanveer Kaur, Khushpreet Kaur, Abhiraj Singh, Dilsahij Singh Malhi, Gursharan Singh, Navroop Singh and Jaismeen Kaur secured school ranks. Managing Director Dr Mangal Singh Kishanpuri and principal Amarpreet Kaur said that these competitions provide opportunity to understand advanced topics beyond standard curriculum, fostering a deeper understanding of their chosen subjects.
International seminar at KCW
Amritsar: An international seminar on “Nutrition as a Holistic Approach” was organised by the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics and Department of Sciences, Khalsa College for Women (KCW), Amritsar. The event was held in the seminar hall. The event was held in collaboration with Eco Club, KCW, under the Environment Education Programme, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India. Dr Hema Sidhu from USA delivered the inaugural address on “Sleep and Nutrition ”. The keynote speaker, Dr Cheenam Bhatia, emphasised upon the urgent need to adopt healthier lifestyle choices, highlighting the alarming consequences of poor dietary habits. Chief guest, Dr Kiran Grover, Head of the Department of Food and Nutrition at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, enlightened the audience on the concept of nutrient-rich plate. Her address highlighted the benefits of natural, wholesome nutrition in maintaining a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Dr Kamaldeep Kaur, Food Safety Officer, Dr Manbir Singh, former Head of the Department of Food Science and Technology at Khalsa College, Amritsar, highlighted the necessity of avoiding junk food to lead a healthy life, stressing the impact of dietary choices on overall well-being. Dr Dalbir Singh Sogi shared his views on the challenges of ensuring proper nutrition for the population.
DAV College session on startups
Amritsar: The Planning Forum under the aegis of Post-Graduate Department of Economics, in collaboration with IIC, organised a session on ‘Startups: Its legal and ethical issues’ under the guidance of principal Dr Amardeep Gupta. The objective was to ensure that the startup ecosystem continues to thrive, as Dr Gupta said that entrepreneurs must navigate both legal and ethical landscapes to build sustainable and responsible businesses. The resource person for the session was CA Abhishek Beri. He gave a detailed presentation about the various legal steps for startups like business registration & licensing, tax compliance issues, intellectual property protection, employment laws & contracts, data privacy & security. He also shared various ethical considerations for startups like fair hiring & workplace culture, honest marketing practices, data protection & consumer rights.
