SRH Assistant Coach Backs 'Underfire' Mohammad Shami Amid Poor Bowling Form
IPL 2025: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) assistant coach Ryan Cook backs Indian pacer Mohammed Shami to rediscover his former-self, as the veteran is currently undergoing a rough patch of form.
Mohammad Shami has not been lethal with the ball ever since he made his return from an ankle injury, that had ruled him out for a long period of time.
Upon his return, he did not do much in India's triumphant ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign, and his numbers in IPL 2025 do not reflect enough promise.
So far in his 3 matches, Shami has managed to scalp merely 2 wickets, with an expensive economy rate of 11.22, but Ryan Cook believes the 34-year-old has a good chance of shining against his former side Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), at the Eden Gardens on Thursday.
"Mohammad Shami is an excellent bowler and has proved himself for many, many years. This pitch will suit him. It shows that a good length here is exactly what is needed. So, looking forward to watching him bowl tomorrow," said Cook, during the pre-match press conference.
SRH have lost two matches in a row, after winning their opening game, and will be looking to bounce back against a struggling KKR side.
Ryan Cook Praises Zeeshan Ansari
Ryan Cook, while addressing the media during the press conference, showered praise on the performance of Zeeshan Ansari, who managed to scalp 3 wickets against DC on IPL debut.
“Zeeshan’s been fantastic, you know, he's impressed in the camp, in the warm-up games, and then obviously in the game the other night, picking up 3 wickets on debut. So, I'm sure he should be able to get another run in the next couple of games," said the SRH Assistant Coach.
