‘Earth is healing’: Fawad Khan fans in India swoon over his slated comeback after 9 years

As the makers of “Abir Gulaal", starring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor, dropped a teaser on Tuesday announcing the movie’s May 9 release, a lobby of politicians and producers in India was quick to voice their displeasure.

Some were even vocal about thwarting the Pakistani actor’s return to Hindi cinema. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) stated that it would not allow the film’s release in Maharashtra.

Fawad last appeared in Karan Johar’s “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" in 2016. A number of producer associations have been against Pakistani artistes working in Indian films since the Pulwama attack.

However, this development in the film world has left fans swooning.

“I hope this is not an April Fool’s prank,” a fan wrote in disbelief as Vaani shared the teaser on her Instagram profile.

“Earth is healing. Fawad is finally back in India!” wrote another excited fan.

Directed by Aarti S Bagdi (“Chalti Rahe Zindagi”), the romantic comedy is produced by Indian Stories, along with A Richer Lens and Aarjay Pictures.

“Thank you, Aarti, for bringing Fawad back to us,” wrote an Instagram user on Aarti S Bagdi’s profile.

In the teaser of the movie, Fawad and Vaani are seen sitting in a car as gentle rain patters on windowpanes. Fawad is singing “Kuch Naa Kaho” from the film 1942: A Love Story. As he finishes the song, Vaani asks, “Are you flirting with me?" to which Fawad quips, “Do you want me to?"

The teaser ends with the text, “Bringing love back”.

“I’m seated,” wrote an Instagram user, reflecting the larger public sentiment about Fawad’s reappearance in Bollywood.
