Demand Increases For Maruti Suzuki SUVs Over Hatchbacks In FY 24-25

Maruti Suzuki for the financial year 2024-25, saw its highest ever total sales of 2,234,266 units while it also included its highest ever domestic sales of 1,795,259 units and highest ever exports of 332,585 units. Interestingly, the demand for its core hatchback models went down in the year 2024-25 as compared to 2023-24. Also, looking at the rise in SUV demand, its utility vehicle sales also increased.

In FY 2023-24, the mini segment of cars comprising Alto and S-Presso sold 142,094 while that dropped down to 125,770 in 2024-25. Sales of the compact category of cars including the Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Wagon R saw a small decline too from 828,015 to 770,737. However, the SUV range increased from 642,296 units in 2023-24 to 720,186 units in 2024-25.

Total domestic sales marginally grew to 1,760,767 for the Domestic Passenger Vehicle Sales (PV). It seems the Fronx, Brezza, Ertiga and Grand Vitara growth contributed to the utility vehicle sales fuelled by more demand for SUVs. Going forward, the carmaker will bring in more SUVs as well to satiate demand. India's largest carmaker will bring in the eVitara SUV also which would be its first pure electric SUV and was shown at the Auto Expo earlier in the year.

The carmaker could also launch more SUVs to plug in various gaps around. This year saw the Fronx claiming the best selling car title for a month and the Fronx has consistently outsold its hatchback siblings in the Maruti Suzuki range.
